Pedaltricity – Charging Your Devices with Pedal Power

Last Summer we installed, tested and reviewed a very efficient energy generating motor that is powered by your bicycle’s pedals as you ride. It is the Bike2Power™ Bottle Dynamo. It keeps mobile devices charged as you are cycling and it became a permanent accessory on one of BLL’s bikes. Bike2Power has now introduced some new options for the Bottle Dynamo USB system that we happily got our hands on and added to our existing Bottle Dynamo system. They are the BikeCONSOLE and the BikeCHARGE power pack.

The BikeCONSOLE is a weatherproof smartphone case which allows you to mount (and protect) your mobile phone on your handlebar. The touchscreen of your phone is still operational through a thin, plastic clear cover (which we found works quite well). and the weatherproofing and shock capabilities of this case are truly exceptional in this product market. The BikeCONSOLE itself has a hard, rubberized feel to it and the corners are built very durable like you would expect in a quality case. The zippers are completely concealed to keep out the elements and the overall quality of this case is extremely nice. Whether you have the Dynamo system or not, this case can still securely mount your smartphone to your bike while protecting it from stormy weather.

A nice touch was adding a headphone jack that protrudes out the back. The other jack is for attaching it to an optional light. The large, locking strap allows you to attach it to places other than the handlebar if you choose and can swivel 360 degrees. This case will hold a phone with up to a 4.8″ screen and as mentioned earlier, can be a nice option for mobile warriors that need the extra phone protection even if you do not use it in conjunction with the other accessories. Included interior foam pads add extra protection and improved fit and a window lets you still use the rear-facing camera on your phone. The case’s dimensions are 3.75″wide x 6.75″ tall and weighs a nice and light 6 oz.

Another new option for some mobile power is the BikeCHARGE POWER PACK, which can be used in conjunction with your Dynamo system, or completely on its own. Essentially it is a large rechargeable battery that is also weather resistant and we are very impressed with its charge life. In our tests we were able to not only recharge a phone to full capacity, but also extend the battery life of another smartphone by almost 75% its normal run time. It can be charged using the Dynamo system or via a computer with the included USB cable. You can then simple snap it into its (also included) bike mount or just throw it in a backpack for when you need some extra mobile juice. Like the case, it has a strong, rubberized feel to it and a protective cover over the jack ports.

We were already fans of the Bike2Power Dynamo system and these are two new accessories that we think are excellent additions to the system. Quality construction also makes these tools stand out above some of the other competitor’s options.

Bike2Power is collaborating with Bike Lane Living and sponsoring an upcoming give-away of some mobile power cycling accessories. Make sure you check back soon and everyone who leaves a comment will be notified when the give-away has begun.
